Finding Place
A search for home.
This series of cyanotypes has been made across a number of locations, including London (UK), Paris (France), multiple locations in Japan (including the summit of Mount Fuji), China (including the Great Wall) and South Korea.
This series began on mulberry paper, and has expanded to also experiment with found fabric. With some pieces, areas that have become torn and too fragile to hold their own weight without support are sewn into with blue thread.
With each exposure I learn new things about what happens with the material when it is put under different stresses, which then informs how I choose to place myself in physical context with the paper during each exposure - knowing that sweat and detritus and the texture of the ground beneath me will all be captured, but in ways that can’t necessarily be neatly predicted.
